Adam is back in Portland, after hosting the Norman Goldman Show in L.A.
Adam goes META in his opening monologue. METAPHYSICAL. METASOCIAL. Our nation is in crisis. 1 in 4 children go hungry in America. While 300 families own more of the wealth than 155 million of their fellow citizens. When we cry for fairness, the say we are being unreasonable. When we howl for democracy, they serve us free markets. When we stand up for our liberties, we get sprayed down like dogs. The world is Mad.
Adam invites guest Parker Higgins from Electronic Frontier Foundation (www.eff.org) to explain how two new bills being introduced in the House could have a dangerous affect on websites and could lead to abuse by the government. The broad language used in the definition of the a ‘rogue’ website could allow the DOJ or individuals to shutdown a website with mere allegations of copyright or trademark infringement.
Protect IP Bill (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual) – would allow the Department of Justice to condemn a website they believe to be a “rogue” or “pirate” site that has engaged in copyright or trademark infringement without due process. The danger is in the vague definition of websites which could allow the Department of Justice to classify just about any website a potential ‘threat’ and allow them to shutdown the site.
SOPA (Stop Online Pirtacy Act) – This act would allow Department of Justice to remove websites from search engines and stop sending users to alleged pirate sites. This would essentially create a ‘blacklist’ of forbidden sites and make them invisible.
Adam’s second guest is David Swanson author of “War is a Lie” and he has a blog at davidswanson.org
